My Anti-Masker encounter

On July 3rd, I went shopping at my local Costco to pick up some groceries for the family.
This is how I was attired:
Yes, that is a Tron Legacy mask.
You know you're jealous of my masky geek game.

So, I went to Costco and did my shopping without any issues.  Tra la la.
Exiting the store, I noticed a group standing in the parking lot yelling at folk. I rolled my eyes and decided to push my cart past without engaging..... wishful thinking on my part.

Most of the folk going in or out of the store were wearing disposable paper face masks, a few had on scarves or bandanas or plain white or black fabric masks - I was the only person I saw in a mask with any sort of clearly professionally printed design. I THINK that this may be why the loud woman decided to make ME her target.

One of the yelling people rushed into my personal space and started yelling at me about how the evil government is way out of line with demanding that we wear face coverings - yup, I got targeted by an anti-masker. I did not respond at first - because I was too concerned over the fact that she was getting into my personal space. I asked her politely to back away, and backed away from her - even in the best of times I don't like strangers in my personal bubble after all.
She did not back off.
I asked Costco to call their security and was told that since she wasn't doing this IN the store, that they couldn't/wouldn't.

*sigh*

I tried multiple times to just push my cart away from her and disengage, but she wasn't having it - so I showed my club card and went back across the threshold and into the store again. Unsurprisingly, she tried to follow me in - well, THAT made it Costco's issue because then she's trying to come in without showing a membership card and without wearing a mask to harass a customer IN their store.

They asked me not to go too deep into the store with my full cart and so I stood there and waited while the random woman continued to scream at me. Honestly, I wasn't paying much attention to her at all until she called me "an unthinking robot slave of the establishment."
I calmly asked her why she thought that of me and she declared that my mask pattern was an insult to her since I was using it to clearly declare myself a robot slave of Big Brother.
I shook my head and responded. "Actually, this mask design alludes to the movie Tron Legacy, which was all about fighting against the blind unthinking establishment."

This response made the cart guy next to me bend over laughing - well screaming woman didn't like that and asked him what was so funny about my supporting oppression. He pointed out that not only was I wearing a Tron mask, I was also wearing a Cpt Marvel shirt - whose whole story arc is about fighting the establishment. And then an old man with white hair pushed his cart by and said in passing "And she has blue hair, so she's clearly not a Republican."

Their comments calmed me down, but the woman kept yelling at me and screamed that my wearing a mask was bowing to big brother and giving up my freedom of choice - I calmly told her that no, I had freely made the choice to wear a mask today, and even chose to wear a fashionable one to better express myself. She demanded to know WHY I chose to wear a mask - I told her "Because I believe in science."

Well, she did NOT like that answer, because then she devolved to screaming at me "I BET YOU'RE NOT EVEN A CHRISTIAN!!"

*sigh*

I told her that I was sorry she felt that way, but that my favorite book in the bible, the book of Job, taught me that I should have patience with those folk like her even through trying times of sickness like now. She said that wasn't enough proof that I knew my bible and demanded that if I was a REAL Christian I would be able to quote her a verse from what was supposedly my favorite book in the bible.
I nodded and said "Very well - Book of Job Chapter 42 verse 15 - And in all the land were no women found so fair as the Daughters of Job, and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. What's your favorite bible verse ma'am?"

I am not sure I have ever seen a jaw drop so far down to the ground in shock. She looked like a fish in her shock as she opened and closed her mouth looking for a reply.
Security showed up then and escorted her out - her still staring at me in shock and doing her fish impression.

Cart guy (who escorted me to my car after) laughed heartily again and said "I did NOT expect a bible verse to come out of someone who looks like YOU!"

Well of course, the secret is that Job 42:15 is the only bible verse I know by chapter and verse like that - but she just set it up too nicely not to whip it out like I did.

So yeah - blue hair, Cpt Marvel shirt, and Tron Legacy mask was apparently the look that screamed "ESTABLISHMENT SLAVE" to this woman today.

I am very thankful that no one there filmed it with their phones to give her any internet fame - they mostly just rolled their eyes and walked right past her (with a 6 ft distance).
